The Auteurist guarantees authenticity and originality in all its photography and video work.
Loving what we do, being constantly inspired and building lasting relationships is paramount to creating stunning one-of-a-kind photos and moving images across weddings, fashion, events, actor headshots, and personal and corporate branding.
- Kirti Krishnan - Indian Bride
An Indian wedding is an incredibly grand event with a number of events leading up to the wedding, and The Auteurist captured all of the special moments. I struggle with professional photos however, Andre made the effort to get to know us as a couple to ensure he captures the essence of our relationship. My husband and I felt so comfortable and were so impressed with the photos. The Auteurist really did capture the essence of our relationship – joy and laughter.
Andre Cooray - Founder & Creative Director
I’m a professional photographer and videographer with a cinematic eye, an instinct for trends and heart for people. I love shooting fashion and weddings because it’s highly artistic, theatrical and different every time. It involves the fun of dressing up, on the spot creativity and collaborating with a talented team of people.
If you’re a bride or groom, I’ll make you look like perfection but also capture intangible elements such as your feelings, personality and energy. I truely enjoy bringing out the romance of your special day.
If you’re an emerging fashion designer, I can showcase the lifestyle your brand represents and its spirit. I will also create striking photographs or video that will grow your social media following and gain traction –– translating into sales.
I also specialise in actor, model and performer headshots and videos that get noticed by casting directors and on social media. I’ll make you feel relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera – and accentuate your best features.
People often say I have a calm demeanour, enthusiastic attitude and a big smile, which bring out the best in them when in front of the camera – so I’ll take (and cheekily publicise) the compliment.
I’ve had the pleasure of photographing celebrities and prominent artists and designers including Australian director Baz Luhrmann (of ‘Moulin Rouge’, ‘The Great Gatsby’ and ‘Romeo & Juliet’ fame), twice running GQ artist of the year and Archibald Portrait Prize runner-up Vincent Fantauzzo, British designer and socialite Kelly Hoppen, and Italian designer and creative director of the iconic luxury brand Roger Vivier Bruno Frisoni.
I’ve worked in photography and film in Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Mumbai (in the heart of Bollywood), Sri Lanka and Melbourne. I used to be a columnist for The Asian Wall Street Journal and occasionally give guest talks to RMIT University’s MBA students on personal branding and photography.
I studied photography and film at Deakin University in Melbourne, and then furthered my film studies in Los Angeles at the New York Film Academy. My short films have been screened in several independent film festivals in the U.S., Germany, Singapore and India.
I started my company The Auteurist when I realized my work truly resonated with people. My focus is on photography and video for weddings, fashion designers, actor/model portraits or show reels, small to medium size business and corporate events. I also consider myself an artist, who has a keen interest in the avant-garde, which is evident in my non-commercial work.
Why call my company The Auteurist? It’s meaningful to me and reminds me why I’m doing this. Auteur is the French word for author and is used to describe filmmakers who give their work a unique stamp in terms of look and feel. Similarly, I believe I can offer a one-of-a-kind style that infuses each piece of photography and video with an originality and authenticity that cannot be replicated by anyone else.
Simon Northwood - Photographer and Videographer
Simon Northwood, photographer, videographer and artist, studied media at The ACU in Melbourne before embarking on travel and extreme outdoor photography in places like the precipitous mountains of Nepal, the Japanese forests, Indonesian wilderness and French countryside. His understanding of other cultures particularly in Asia, and local subcultures brings a lot to The Auteurist’s ‘photographic’ table. He is our ‘ninja’ cameraman with getting those candid group shots on our wedding and event shoots. His work ranges from surreal landscape photographs and stylised portraits to natural and vibrant family and social function shots.
